It is a beautiful park setting......feels like Hawaii or some other quaint place.

Love those date palm trees.

Hope the rattlesnakes can read!!!

This slope has "desert varnish" on it which just means that the water has made it look slippery and black.

What do you think of this centipede? It has 36 legs!! How would you like to buy 18 pair of shoes for it?? It was alive but lying low. We let it be because they do bite. It was about 6-8 inches long.

Sarah Alink invited us to go on the hike to the arborteum...she knew some other friends were going. We had a marvelous day.

This is a picture of Colonel Thompson's shack overlooking the arborteum. A nice view, eh?

Enjoyed having Les and Jeri Keller over for dinner and played "golf" cards. Nice evening, nice folks, good food.

We enjoyed a light snack/lunch at the top. An enjoyable day was had by all! At least by Mike and I. =)

Here's where we made it to. It's called the saddle and it's where 4 riders came through.

There is snow on the far away mountain. Hard to believe when we're in 70 degree weather to see snow!

more sites along the way...and a closeup of an ocotillo!

Here's the cave, a grassy area, and some neat yellow flowers.

This is a ocotillo (ok-a-tee-a) before it blooms. It'll have orange flowers next month.

Beautiful ravine that we walked in....I'm checking out a cave here.

We enjoyed a hike up the back side of the Usury Mountains today. Took us 3 hours total. Went to the "saddle" where, ironically, we ran into a group of 4 horseback riding. Sweet!
